Final Submission EXP 2

One of the props used, a portrait of Ghandi as this was where he lived for some time. I used decal to give a decay look to the photo. This is also  my means of interactivity in the trailer. Shooting this caused it to break down as a response because of rayfire

An image of the structural collape of certain parts of the building due to the vegetation growing uncontained by the absence of humanity. Its weight caused members to fail such as the pillar which lead to the rafters, planks and roof

Another image of how decay is evident in the building, showing the concrete "frame". Also note how a piece of the rafter fell from decay exposing the structural members of the building.

EXP 2 Week 6


Strategy: 
Playing on the idea that this world has been affected by nuclear radiation, I want to show the decay and destructibility of objects. Aiming this trailer to lean towards a more horror, eerie path, as I walk pass areas while looking, im going to use the advantage of the blind spots and corners to "hide" objects that will show up right in the cameras view which will shock the viewer and I plan to use that jump scare as an opportunity to shoot the gun. This will show the collasping of the portrait prop showing both interactivity and decay from nuclear radiation. To limit which parts structurally  failed, I concentrated failure around the interior trees. This was because I went with the idea that if humans didnt live, and with the help of nuclear radiation, vegetation could grow exponentially and become so large that it would begin to "lean" over parts of the structure and give in to the weight

Reflection:
This lecture gave me ideas of adding small details that would work to my advantage and take into considerated what would be needed to give a certain impression and overall effect to the viewer. Quite similar to EXP1 of the sublime.

EXP 2 Week 5

Blending Texture:

Shows strong apocalyptic atmosphere and buildings of decay. Gives impression of unknown and danger

Gives strong eerie impression by muted sound and lack of music

Gives eerie impression by slow panning and camera movement in single flowing motion

Shows very bleak atmosphere by dull lighting

Maniac:


Mainly POV shots, showing an interesting take on a horror genre.

Paragraph:
Seeing these trailers gave me many ideas of how to show my trailer. Beginning at the start of the house, will show the house decayed in a POV motion. Most of this will be in POV slowly looking around and progressing through the building. As this happens, it will juxtapose to the past where it will show a clean and new house showing parts of where collapsed building will be. it will be a series of running, walking and looking around. I also wanted to play with the idea that nuclear radiation led to the mutation of animals that have violent behaviour so the "i am not alone" concept is continued.

Reflection:
This lecture taught me just how terrifying mother nature could be. This was reinforced by what Russell said about how nature can always trumph and surprise humanity no matter how much we design. Bringing up something interesting in the lecture was the Namibia land where diamonds where found in the desolate area.

EXP 2 Week 4

Direction:
The way im going to go with this project regarding disaster will involve nuclear radiation taking inspiration from the pripyat photos. Im going to be shooting this video and constantly going back from 100 years to past to juxtapose the two atmospheres. Im also going to show how nuclear radiation has affect the house, having clumps of structure failing, trees growing out and coloumns slowly degrading.
Reflection:
What I took back from the lecture was how decay can show so many pieces from the decay as they were the individual pieces that made up the structure. Alot of structures are either completely leveled or partially falling and collasping down.

Reflection:
What I found interesting about the lecture was the way things broke down. I had to think logically and to detail of structures. I also had to consider which way things would fall with my building. Guessing from the buildings exposure to the open environment, the planks would fail, then rafters and then the tile roof. 

EXP 2 Week 2

Progress

3 Materials:
Brick- Made out of clay that is treated, heated and pressed together. Brick walls are made with brick and bonded by mortar. They are sustain for a good amount of time and strong against weather. Durable and structurally sound. As time passes, mortar will fail and brick will fall off and overtime crumble.

 Concrete-Made out of cement and water. Will begin to crumble as exposed to water. Cracks form and pieces fall off. as cement and water mix, gives off heat while moulded. Structurally sound but if there is no shear plane to brace, lateral forces such as wind can damage the concrete slab.
 Timber- Made out of cell structure that is similar to a bundle of straws bounded by a rubber band. Timber divides between either soft or hard type. Will rot and decay over time especially if exposed. Structurally sound but can fail when force is against grain. 

Reflection:
This lecture made me think of how substances worked and then how they would break down. I also had to consider how nature had an impact. For example termites acting on timber, and rocks slowly crumbling from erosion. My building consists of various substances and i will have to think about how they will break down.

EXP 2 Week 1

Chosen Architecture: Sabramati Ashram
 This building gave accommodation to Ghandi and has many portraits of him. Very open, and consists of a series of repeated brick coloumns and concrete walls and roofs.

There are small details such as the tile roofs, the metal window frames, the concrete top, the tiled floor.

As said before, this building is very open and has many small courtyards that have vegetation growing in them.

Reflection:
What I found  very interesting was the amount of vegetation that grew in the Chernobyl despite the radiation that affected the building giving a very distinct look of derelict house but growing plants that  gave the impression of an area that is humanless.

Week 6

 Reflection

Reflection:
The use of flow graphs was very interesting and how interactive environments can be toward the persons experience. Had I have the extra time I would have explore this in incorporating a proximity sensor for the Rice field where as the person walks towards the house, it gets more foggy to invoke a sense of mysteriousness and danger

Strategy:
In implementing these subliminal messages, I wanted to incorporate them heavily into the landscape and terrain to get a balance of how casual it could be but also make it look too unnatural to provoke thought of larger forces at play on this mysterious island. I aimed to make it casual in a way that at one angle you can see the letter quite obvious but not so much so in another perspective. This was so I could make the trailer more interesting from use of other camera angles. 

Because my number was 8, I wanted to express it more as a letter than in quantity as having more of an object resulted in it being overlooked as too casual and having then aligned would make the object look too unnatural. I wanted to avoid for the audience to count rapidly the number of objects in the subliminal messages.


Reflection:
In seeing the subliminal messages, I notice how some things were only visible for a second however it was placed in such a way that it stuck in the mind. I also notice how it could be incorporated into things that had another function to be almost overlooked

Week 4

From seeing all the types of weather, Im going to choose the cloudy gray sky because I believe that along with some rain and lightning effects, it can create a very dramatic scene suitable for the theme of sublime

Reflection:
This lecture taught me how you can invoke emotions through the changing of lighting and effects to give a very strong impression. My theme plays on the island of dark and gloomy leaning towards a scary theme so these are achievable by the lighting

For certain scenes I used Repton's guideline rules for the picturesque:
A foreground: regular, geometrical and designed for human use.
A middle ground: a serpentine park in the manner of Lancelot Brown.
A background: natural scenery, as little affected by man as possible.
